The dwarfs need a sitter because they’re short? Or am I missing something?

The Return of the Return of the Arlo Page

Filed under: Argyle Sweater, Arlo Page, CIDU, comic strips, comics, Dogs, humor, sex — Cidu Bill @ 12:14 am

This is, of course, where we place comics not for the young, the offendable, or many places of business. I’m trying to work out a way, using WordPress, to separate it from the main page. For now, I’ve placed it here and password-protected it (type in the first name of Bill Clinton’s girlfriend; if you don’t know it, you’re probably too young).

It’s a fairly clumsy solution, but it’ll do for now.

Update: Okay, now it works.

Not QUITE an Arlo Strip…

… but could the artist possibly not have known it could be interpreted more than one way?

Robot Redux

Okay, while the same scene being repeated three times (see below) actually does make more sense — and is kind of funny — this was in fact a WordPress glitch: The comic was supposed to be a single panel (above)

Stuff

What an odd way to phrase this: Is Dithers saying Johnny Hart was one hell of an ultra-conservative, religious fundamentalist anti-Semite?

Maybe and maybe not, but I have noticed that several of the Hart tributes by fellow cartoonists have been either very awkward or clearly left-handed compliments.

And… You notice hardly anybody seems to have noticed that Brant Parker died too? I mean, even the Big Bopper got more attention than this.

Darin’s wrong: There was an incident a few years back where a teacher chaparoning a school dance checked to see whether girls were wearing thongs — pretty much in plain sight of everybody else, which sort of defeated the whole “rule designed for the purpose of decorum and modesty” principle

But what’s the actual joke here?

Should that read “Creationism isn’t something I support…”? Or is the gag written as intended and I’m missing something?

I think it goes without saying that this discussion is confined to those of us who are Kevin and Kell fans…

I don’t get the entire final panel: The question, the answer, and the plants. I suspect one explanation explains all three, of course, but I’m stumped.

Dante’s Infernal Laptop

Filed under: Bill Bickel, Bizarro, CIDU, comic strips, comics, Dante, Home on the Strange, humor — Cidu Bill @ 12:20 am

For some reason, Sunday’s Bizarro strip

reminded me of this old Home on the Strange strip:

Backtracking a bit… What exactly is going on in the first panel of the Bizarro strip? The statue hitting himself in the head with the hammer caused the sculptor to do the same??

And speaking of Home on the Strange…

Are we supposed to assume that her reference is more esoteric than his?

Yahoo: Only Following Orders (OT)

Filed under: Bill Bickel, Crimeweek, justice, law, Yahoo — Cidu Bill @ 12:36 pm

In possibly the most hypocritical statement of principle ever issued, Yahoo has criticized the Chinese government for imprisoning people for expressing anti-government views online.

Yahoo glosses over the fact that they’re being sued by the World Organization for Human Rights USA on behalf of journalist Shi Tao (sentenced to ten years in prison for circulating an e-mail about the Chinese governments restrictions on the media) and reporter Wang Xiaoning and his wife (imprisoned for distributing pro-democracy writings).

(Officially, these offenses are “leaking state secrets” and “incitement to subvert state power,” respectively)

Yahoo assisted in all three prosecutions by turning over account information about Shi and Wang to the Chinese government. They justify this by insisting that in order to do business in China, they have to adhere to Chinese law. They deplore this sort of thing, of course, but what’s a company to do? Business is business, you know.

Sixty-some years ago, the word for people and companies doing business with Nazi Germany on Nazi Germany’s terms was “collaborators.”

When Truth is Stranger Than Comic Strips

Filed under: Bill Bickel, CIDU, comic strips, comics, Crimeweek, humor, Monty, weird world of crime — Cidu Bill @ 7:49 pm

    June, 2007:

    November, 2006:

“Last week in the French village of Mussidan, a thief broke into a home and got away with a number of items, including a television set. He was caught when neighbors spotted him breaking into the home a second time, while the homeowner was at the police station reporting the first break-in, because he’d forgotten to steal the television’s remote control.”
