Hopefully Not a Variation on the Turducken

Filed under: Bill Bickel, CIDU, comic strips, comics, Days of Thunder, humor, orca, panda — Cidu Bill @ 12:01 am

CAS: “Panda, orca, business guy with bushy eyebrows? Shrug!”

  1. The theme is endangered species? Are businessmen an endangered species because of the economy or outsourcing?

  2. Perhaps the theme is actually “unable to breed in captivity”?

Cubicles have been known to kill the mood. Well, for most of us anyhow.

  3. Dwayne:

Maybe if you turn off one of the flourescent bulbs above you and string a bead curtain across your cubicle opening, it would set the mood.

Oh, and scented candles, though that may get you in trouble with HR.

  4. I think it’s a simple matter of graphic similarity. Black-and-white, panda with big black fake eyespots, orca with big white fake eyespots, businessman with big bushy eyebrows that could be interpreted as fake eyespots.

I dunno. He seems to have become even more incomprehensible after changing his name from Esmay to Lovely.

  5. He’s actually a Mentat, a refugee from the Dune universe…

  6. I think that when you mention your website in big letters somewhere you should have something more than a placeholder (at least that’s what’s there as I write this).

  7. Panda, orca … Hoffa?

  8. Charlene is talking about the in the cartoon

  9. Gotta second Dan Sachs on this one: it’s a series of endangered species. The third is probably meant to be a “traditional” businessman (i.e. grouchy old white guy – once an American fixture but nowadays relegated to Wamu ads), but to me he looks like a 1950s-type Soviet, like Leonid Brezhnev, with those bushy eyebrows and that grim, humorless expression.

  10. I think it’s the eyespot explanation. Orcas are slightly endangered (“conservation dependent”, in the jargon), but not famously so like the pandas.

  11. The businessman reminds me of Abe Vigoda (“Fish” on Barney Miller).

  12. Endangered species, dying out…

Pandas are dying out (is there a Willy reference here that I am missing out on?)
    Orcas are endangered (Free Willy)
Death of a Salesman (Willy Loman)
