  1. Ah, the old staring contest. The joke here is that Blondie treats it as a staring contest and apparently wins in the traditional manner of such contests while Dagwood isn’t even facing her.

The joke is that the power of her shrewishness is so much that he doesn’t even have to look to know the awesome might behind him. His lip quivers; he gives in to the silent nag.

  2. I think Blondie knows she’s a hot piece and can get Dagwood to do what she wants.

  3. Hello she has all the “meow” and half his money, and he knows it!

  4. I haven’t seen this Blondie and it’s in our daily paper – the “alt” tag reports it as August 12th. How did you get that one?

  5. Or it could have been sitting forgotten in my computer since last August 12…

  6. How did she see his lower lip quivering if he was facing away from her?

And she sure does have half his money – like 90% of women, she works and earned half that money! Love the idea some young guys have that that a family’s money somehow belongs automatically to the man.

  7. She only started working for pay pretty recently (as a caterer). Was a major theme for a while. She hasn’t been working all that long (other than raising the three kids (Dagwood included)).

  8. I realized I was over 30 when Blondie starting looking hot and feeling jealous that a stumblebum like Dagwood could hold her attention. Grrr.

  9. I remember a few years ago when my friend told me he’d begun finding himself more attracted to the mothers on sitcoms than to the daughters.
