  1. I don’t think there’s anything more to this than the absurdity of a knight using an umbrella to deflect the rain instead of a shield to deflect sword strikes.

Though the fact that this appears to be a rather large melee is a little puzzling; the above absurdity would’ve worked just as well, if not better, if it was a simple two-person duel.

  2. oil can, oil can.

The knight with the umbrella is avoiding getting wet and subsequently rusting his suit of armore

  3. yeah, well they all (or at least more) should have been using umbrellas since the title is Rainy KnightS.

  5. Oh wait, this is Brevity. No wonder. Those strips are NEVER funny, I don’t know how these guys continue to be published.

  6. I think the point of the melee is to show that only *one* knight out of many is concerned with protecting his suit of armour from rusting.

This cartoon could have been slightly tweaked to make it funnier. I would have had the knight on the right holding an umbrella *instead of* a sword, attempting to use his umbrella as a weapon.

  7. Ok, so I’m not an expert on medieval warfare, but one thing I have learned. Those guys were strong, but not strong enough to enter foot combat in full sheet-metal armor. That was reserved for horseback. On foot, it was much better to have a light weight chain mail shirt and small helmet, because the best defense is to be able to get out of the way!

Of course, knights on horseback do get knocked off, and don’t have time to change, but really, there are no horses in the picture, and no infantry either!

  8. It’s simple.
    It’s funny.
    It’s over-analyzed.
