The only explanation I can come up with is, Nancy’s mind went when she was struck by the undeniable reality that she can’t possibly be genetically related to Aunt Fritzi

  1. Whatshisface, whose name I don’t remember, stays away from sharks. He also stays away from work. Nancy assumes for the same reason.

It would make more sense with grown-ups.

Love the gratuitous Aunt Fritzi panel!

  2. That’s Aunt Fritzi?! Oi veh — I haven’t seen Nancy since Aunt Fritzi was just a head w/appealing sweater leaning in from the nearest doorway.

  3. Nancy is ragging on Slugo for being lazy by joking that a movie made him stay away from work.

Kind of reminds me of my Mom and Dad.

  4. Cedar, he’s Sluggo.

Agreed: if a movie about sharks is why he’s keeping his distance from the ocean, then considering his oft-noted resistance to work he must have seen a movie about work.

Maybe it’s just filler material for the real point of this strip: Aunt Fritzi.

  5. I think Aunt Fritzi has been spending too much time in Riverdale…

Don’t know much about “Nancy” – but is Sluggo some kind of card or pool “shark”?

  6. So Aunt Fritzi’s wandered over from the Archie strip?

  7. Thanks to comments #3 and 4, I finally get it. My original thinking was that because Sluggo is so poor, it was hard for Nancy to believe he’d been to any movie at all. Doesn’t make sense now that I read the comic correctly.
    BTW, Aunt Fritzi rocks!
