  1. The professor is an archaeologist (note the surroundings). He does not intend to drink it.

    His under-educated minion assumes that’s why he’s reaching for the teapot, and is going to rectify the situation.

    The real question here is whether the racial makeup of the strip constitutes cause to gasp in shock.

  2. The angle and the detail is what’s confusing me. It took me awhile to notice that the professor’s hand is reaching toward the pot. Also, the bland, bored look on his face doesn’t make it seem like he’s excited about the find.

  3. In most Raiders/Mummy/whatever situations like this, the local assistant would be warning the visiting professor that the pot is cursed, poisoned, or otherwise deadly, not that it is staleā€¦

    Only if you succumb to the PC thought police. I can’t even tell what the racial makeup of the strip is. Both characters appear to be the same from the way they are drawn.
