Not… a… clue

  1. Most people with office jobs work in a cubed shaped space called… a cubicle.

Why there’s a man in a bubble wearing a tie and boxing gloves, however, has me stumped.

  2. Guy in boxing gloves looks like management.

  3. It’s just simple word play. If you check below the comic you’ll see the word “Hemisphericals”, a play on the word cubicle as William suggested above.

    The gloves I can’t explain.

  4. I got the wordplay, but why are they all in bubbles inside their hemisphericles?

  5. I thought it was a visual play as well… the bubble guys at their desk I would think were just behind a glass sound barrier or something. However the presence of the manager draws attention to the fact that they are, in fact, wearing the bubbles.

  6. I think his gloves extend outside his sphere–I guess so he can prod the workers without leaving his antiseptic environment.

    Comment by Hunt — August 31, 2007 @ 8:27 am

  7. As for the gloves, I believe Hunt has it – “bubble boy” arrangements are sometimes set up so that a person can put his arms in the gloves to do things on the other side of the bubble.

  8. Are those “bubble boy” bubbles, or are they in hamster balls?

But I don’t think it matters if we figure it out or not, it’s still not going to be very funny.

  9. Trying to apply logic … brain hurts …

How does one move in such a bubble? Shouldn’t feet be outside, too?

  10. If people constantly lived in bubbles what shape would their work environment likely be?

    Comment by Pinny — August 31, 2007 @ 4:43 pm

  11. How do the big hamster ball fit through the regular sized door behind the boxing hamster manager?

  12. I think this is artistic laziness. The artist drew a frame with people in hemispherical work spaces, but it didn’t make sense visually.

He was too lazy to attempt a redraw, so he added bubbles to make the sphericalism more obvious. While the publisher helpfully declared “you have 30 seconds” he finished the last sphere on the manager, forgetting that it doesn’t make sense there. Then submitted the strip, neglecting to change the caption to “Sphericals”.
