Well, isn’t THAT interesting…

Filed under: Bill Bickel, credit cards, crime, fraud, scams, Visa, VOIP, Vonage — Cidu Bill @ 12:01 am

The phone call I got yesterday from somebody claiming to represent Visa was actually from Vonage, an attempt to get my new credit card number so they can continue billing me after they refused to put through my repeated requests for cancellation (see previous update).

Wow. At least I was right about this being a scam to make fraudulent use of my credit card.

  1. Whoa! Did Vonage actually have someone call and pretend to be from Visa? If so, you should file a complaint (with the FCC, probably). This is a surprisingly straightforward criminal act for a large company. How did you find out it was Vonage?

  2. I called the number they left.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the message: I deleted after the brick wall I spoke to at Visa made it clear they had no interest in the matter.

  3. Maybe they’ll slip up and do it again, and you’ll have a very interesting piece of evidence for a court case.
