Just the Fax… (OT)

Filed under: Bill Bickel, fax, telephones — Cidu Bill @ 1:41 am

This has nothing to do with anything else, but as long as I have the attention of so many outrageously knowledgeable people…

I’m trying to get rid of my land line telephone completely, but I still need to be able to send and receive faxes. Is there a simple, computer-based method of doing so?

  1. Check out I also use Norton WinFax Pro. I use my scanner to prepare the faxes, and receive them as PDFs through in my email.

  2. Thanks, Kent, but I should have specified I was looking for a free option. eFax Pro costs as much as basic land line service, and their free option is worthless.

  3. Not sure if it relates, but have you heard of the Ooma?

  4. Bill

    Here are a couple

Both of these services use ads to support the ‘free-ness’ of the faxes. Which you may or may not want to be involved in.

  5. I haven’t had a land line for almost 5 years. It would have been longer except for the no-fax problem. Solution? Since I wasn’t using it that much and one of my daughters was, I gave the fax machine to her. Works great. Whenever I want to send/receive a fax, I go over to her house and she feeds me too!

  6. Why bother with a fax at all? Just scan the documents into PDF format and email them. I mean who the heck doesn’t have email these days?

Or if you fax only occasionally there’s always Kinkos…
