  1. Well I thought he was a goner the last time, so what do I know?

  2. And now since time has stopped for the strip, he’s stuck this way forever. Or at least until Lynn gets out of her funk. I do feel sorry about her marriage falling apart all of a sudden, but what can you do? Especially for a total stranger in another country.

  4. Lynn Johnston’s husband left her in April for another woman.

  5. My guess is that she’ll take out her resentment by giving John ED, and go on from there. It might be extreme to go all Lisa Moore on him, though…

  6. Bizarre. I have to admit I don’t keep tabs that closely on cartoonists’ personal lives…

  7. Somebody linked to the article over at joshreads.com

It’s sad because I do have a couple of her retrospective books where she talks about her family at years 15 and 20 of FBOFW. Now, I don’t care if he’s in his 60’s, I wanna deck the guy (not making a terroristic threat!)

  8. The scuttlebutt is that he retired, she scaled down the comic and introduced the “hybrid” idea specifically so she could have more time to spend with him, then he almost immediately took off – with her office manager.

I guess he doesn’t feel the way she does about “working women”.

  9. Isn’t this all just “rerun” stuff? In a recent interview, Jynn Johnston said she was not starting any new storylines, that all existing ‘lines had been wrapped up, and that the strip would change its format to something along the lines of “remember when.”

Seems I recall this particular storyline. And I’m not telling how it turns out.

  10. Dan, this is Grandpa Jim’s second stroke. The whole “everything freezes” concept was put on hold for a while after Lynn Johnston’s husband left her, making her semi-retirement a less desirable option.

  11. Hmmm…that opens new doors! Is this all very recent? I mean, wasn’t it only like this past spring when LJ wrapped it up?
