  1. It took Trudeau a full week to lead up to the chad joke!

  3. Doonesbury is a “comics page” comic not a “editorial page” comic. The former has a 2 week lead-in time (minimum) while the latter has at most a day lead-in time. I assume that Trudeau wrote penned this the day Gore’s Prize was announced.

  4. And he didn’t foresee the probability that by October 26, every editorial cartoonist would have already made the same joke… that stopped being funny almost 8 years ago… even without a week-long buildup??

The phrase “full week to lead up to” wasn’t a reference to the lag between the prize announcement and the running of this particular strip. It referred to the fact that all this week, Doonesbury has been a running press conference (with Gore’s prize already having been mentioned) resulting in a week-long build-up to an 8 year old tired joke.

  6. Jimmy Carter being the elder statesman who monitors elections in failed democracies around the world …

  7. Well, OK, he fell for the temptation of the cheap gag – but I he did it better than anyone else out there (if not quicker).

I mean NO ONE gets Shrub’s voice right the way Gary T. does. No Sir.

May have to do with both of them having gone to the same college (Yale) at the same time (’67, ’68)…
