With Cindy On My Arm

The strip has jumped ahead to 2017 by which time, apparently, Greenwich Village has become a solidly heterosexual enclave and the running of the Halloween parade is now in the hands of people who couldn’t get tickets for Comic Con.

  1. Huh?

Well, what do you expect when John Byrne guest-draws the strip? (That’s either him, or Batuik is in full style-bite mode…the pink-haired lady in the lower left is pure Byrne, for instance.)

  3. Looks like Les found a Lisa-clone…

He definitely looks better with the goatee (or perhaps that is his mirror universe counterpart).

  4. Clearly the artist has NEVER been in THE Village on Halloween.

  5. You guys have it all wrong. This is 2017. Apparently, that throng of folks are wearing what will be the standard fashion of that time, while it’s Les and party in costume, all decked out in retro 2007 wear.

  6. Giving Batiuk the benefit of the doubt… in hindsight, maybe Les’ couch conversations weren’t actually 10 years ahead, only a year or 2. The strip didn’t really lurch ahead the full 10 years until 10/21/07, when Les and Summer are sitting on the park bench. Maybe the couch chats were just a (clumsy) way of getting us all up to speed fast, and not meant to have occurred at any specific date.

Heck, the clumsy story-telling was still better than the reams of scrunched-up text in the Sunday “Non Sequitor” strips… not that NS is EVER funny ANY day of the week anymore. I remember the old old OLD days when I’d even cut out an occasional Non Sequitor and tape it to the fridge…

  7. I still have no idea what Bill means with his caption.

  8. Cindy is on Les’s arm, obviously. And there’s a song in the Broadway play La Cage aux Folles — about a gay nightclub — called With You On My Arm.

The captions only have to make sense to me, remember.

  9. Oh NO! By 2017 we’ll have been taken-over by Comic-Con people??!! Maybe Lisa was the LUCKY one!

  10. Are we sure they went ahead 10 years in real time? Or did Batiuk just make everyone 10 years older while not changing the outside world?

Or were we in 1997 before?

  11. I’m assuming that they started out in 2007 and then moved ten years into the future to 2007. Nothing else would really be workable.

My comment was based on the fact that the Greenwich Village Halloween parade in 2007 bears NO resemblance to what Batiuk was showing us. I suspect that he’s spent less time in New York than I’ve spent in Westview, Ohio.

  12. So what does the Village look like on Hallowe’en?
