Janice: I’m with Ruthie – what was this lady aiming for? Ruthie already said, “Excuse me,” and “please,” so how much more polite can a 6-year-old be?

  1. “Please, ma’am?” Some people insist on full measures of title-based respect.

  2. “Please forgive me for making a reasonable request of a woman wearing a sweatsuit tuxedo with garishly wide lapels. I should have known better.”

  3. In all seriousness, I believe the woman was demanding a full sentence with both “please” and the request together. Some people are like that.

  4. Ruthie should wipe her hands on that ugly pantsuit.

  5. I’m with Rasheed. The lady was probably looking for something like “please could you help me?”

  6. On the evidence she would probably have found anything less than “Please, Your Highness” unsatisfactory.

  7. If the woman had any manners, she would have recognized the predicament and offered help without being asked.

  8. I think the lady was going for “Please” and a preemptive “Thank you” as well. I tend to say things like this with my younger siblings to confuse them and see what they come up with and “Please and thank you” is the response I get most often.

  9. How about “Please, you crusty old bat?”

  10. Arik’s response made me think of Emily Litella: “Please… bitch?”

  11. Its like those teachers who force their students to write ALL of their answers in full sentences even when it is completely unnecessary (e.g. If I ask you why why the colonies declcared independence, I’d expect a complete sentence, but the correct answer to “When was the Declaration of Independence signed?” is “1776” NOT “The Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.”

  12. She’s looking for “Please, could you help me?”.

You just have to remember- this is “One Big Happy”. It’s not supposed to be funny, it’s supposed to be “cute” (using the term loosely, so as to accommodate all the sickeningly sweet glurge that could be mustered).
