Battlestar Lesbianica

This cracked me up because it’s almost word-for-word how I was mocking the recap just a few hours earlier.

And there’s very little exaggeration here: SciFi made a big point of this entirely gratuitous plot point in at least two separate recaps; and in the final recap, just 10 minutes before the end of the 2-hour movie, the fact that two of the characters had had a lesbian relationship was the only plot point they included.

See two women kiss! In fact, since the DVD contains the “unrated” version, they might kiss twice!

  1. Did “Star Trek” (DS9) already do that?

  2. *thinking*

in the mirror universe, Ezri Dax had a thing with Leeta, but i can’t remember if they kissed.

  3. It was Michelle Forbes from Next Gen and the blonde cylon. I saw the Battlestar movie a couple weeks ago at the theatre, and the cartoon is pretty much how it went down, except Microsoft sponsored the event, so the commercials were for the Zune and a video game (REALLY long annoying Seth Green interview about voice acting that pretty much ruined the whole event)

Anyway, yeah, it was like they had a rainbow sledgehammer every 2 minutes to reiterate that the evil admiral lady was also gay. Can’t say the movie was anything special. Good thing the showing was free.

  4. On DS9, mirror Kira was bisexual kissed at least one female. In the non-mirror universe, Jadzia kissed the (female) current host of one of Dax’s previous hosts’ ex-husband’s symbiont.

But I don’t think either one was ever promoted in a leering way.

  5. Hate to be a whiner, but the sidebar on the right is at it again, cutting off parts of the comments and the strips.

  6. Hah, yeah that’s basically how it went down. Leave it to Sci-Fi Channel to hand everything to its viewers on a silver, lesbionic platter…

  7. The Quiznos bumpers also talked about Adama’s link to the Hybrid project, something that was actually revealed during the flashbacks run during Flash Gordon in recent weeks. I got the impression it was part of some online “guess the plot twists” promo Quiznos had been running in the leadup.

  8. I was thinking of Jadzia Dax and her former host’s husband’s symbiont’s new host. (that’s difficult to describe!)

No, it was not promoted in a leering way.

Was the BSG really done so salaciously? That’s hilarious. 🙂

  9. Actually, Michele, I remember TV Guide making a big deal about Jadzia’s upcoming kiss. By the time Mirror-Kira did the same, though, it was old hat.

The funny thing is, in the BSG episode, all we saw was the briefest kiss as the two women greeted one another, not at all sexual. I happened to think it was highly inappropriate, not because they were LESBIANS, but because this was a meeting with the ship’s officers and hardly the time or place for any physical show of affection, heterosexual or homosexual.

This whole thing merely confirmed my suspicion that the SciFi Channel is run by 12-year-old boys.

  10. This was not even supposed to be a CIDU, but I have no idea what anybody is talking about.

  11. I must have missed the TV Guide thing – easy to do as I don’t pay much attention to stuff like that.

The “12-year-old boys” theory makes a lot of sense!
