Behind

A reference to the writer’s strike? If so it’s jumping the gun, since few viewers have seen any impact yet.

  1. I was going to say it’s a play on “hey diddle diddle”, but then I remembered that “the dish ran away with the spoon” not the fork.

So maybe the spoon left the dish for being so dull & is now with the fork & of course the offspring is a spork.

But I still think it should really be called a “foon” because the “fork” part goes into your mouth first.

  3. Michele, the first one was the CIDU. The second thing was a plug for a calendar.

  5. I thought it has something to do with the cord in his lap. Maybe he sits there all day because he Can’t get up. (but why is he there in the first place?) Still not funny, but why else draw the cord that way?

  6. Rammy, I think it’s just drawn that way to make it visually clear that he’s behind it.

Yes, this is a reference to the writer’s strike. And as for the impact, since the only television show I watch is the Daily Show, the strike has caused a 100% drop in my viewing habits.

  7. I stared at this blankly for a while…but I think spiritcatcher is right. This isn’t a reference to the writer’s strike, but just a reversal of “sitting in front of the TV all day.” I have to say that once it dawned on me, I thought it was pretty funny.

  10. As a multi-pet owner, I have witnessed this type of behavior. A cat will just sleep in the same odd spot for weeks — often behind something. This struck me as the woman pointing out that, for some reason, this man (presumably, her husband) just sits in that odd spot all day.
