  1. Conservationist-minded Crow infamously advocated the use of a single sheet of toilet paper.

  2. Finally – CIDU returns to its roots exploring the meaning behind comics lacking apparent humor and abandons, for the moment, Winkerbashing.

  3. Which, panelist, was meant as a joke. Unfortunately an ultra-conservative blogger desperately looking for some reason to slam her (and environmentalism as well, natch) reported it as if she had been serious.

  4. CROW DELENDA EST.

  5. The fact that it could be taken seriously illustrates the problem with today’s environmental debate. While most, I think, would agree that a clean, safe environment is optimal, there is a certain subculture of envirowackos that seem to advocate a return to cave-living, even as they tool around from event to event in their suvs, guzzling their “fitness water” from throw-away plastic bottles.

Also, if you don’t mind, I think I will avoid shaking her hand, when and if the opportunity arises.

I’ve always find this argument puzzling, when used for any issue:

Person A: Did you hear that people in group X said crazy thing Y?

Person B: Actually, that’s not true.

Person A: Well, the fact that I could think it was true shows how crazy group X is!

Strange. Incidentally, did you hear that George W. Bush is so evil that he eats human babies? What? That’s not true? Well, still the fact that I thought it was shows how evil he is.

  8. Wow, this simple little comic sure got everyone fired up! Deep, cleansing breaths, everyone!

  9. Thanks, blurgle, I hadn’t realized Crow was joking– though I also didn’t spend much time thinking about it anyway (I heard her statement mentioned on a sports radio station, and the host did laugh). I suppose then the comic is a commentary on how the naive dog reads and believes conservative blogs.

  10. Regardless of the toilet paper thing being a joke, the comic’s point still stands if she is an ultra-environmentalist. It might not have the sway that it would otherwise, but it still works.

My wrapping job was slightly better than his. Slightly.

The difference between your statement and Crow’s is this:

Generally, sane, rational people would think that you are either joking, making a point, or just really, really hate Bush. With her subject matter, the debate has deteriorated to the point, that, even in context, it is difficult or impossible to determine whether she is serious or joking.

You know that there’s someone (probably a good many someones) out there who read that and thought, “Hey, what a great idea.” People might WANT to believe that Bush eats babies, but most wouldn’t take it seriously.

  12. OK, I’m confused. Does GWB eat babies or not?????

    Comment by Robverb — December 25, 2007 @ 12:58 am

  13. GWB’s appetite could include baby. I don’t think reporters are asking these types of questions. When asked about terrorism, W makes threats to reporters about their own kids and terrorists… I don’t think they want to taunt a well-known accused baby eater.

  14. As Homer would say: “Mmmmmmm, baby!”

    Comment by arik1969 — December 25, 2007 @ 7:21 am

  15. Wait, wait – George W. Bush eats babies? Holy shit, does the press know this?
