Christmas Cards

I have no idea what the joke is here, but I suspect the cartoonist is getting coal in his stocking this morning.

(Click the comic if you can’t see the whole thing)

  1. My guess: Much like the Christian belief that Jesus was born to be the Way, bringing a set of rules for life, the cards have been given a Way, and a purpose for their life. I think, in that context, it’s not quite so Go T’Hell wrong as it appears at first.

    But that’s just a guess.

  2. Coal?
Imagine if it was Aces and Eights?

  3. arik1969 basically got out of it what I have since I first saw it. I dunno if it’s really non-Christian so much as a metaphor for the whole idea.

  4. I agree with arik1969. I find the comic a little amusing.

Maybe it’s meant to be offensive, but I think it’s just supposed to be weird.

  5. Shouldn’t Mary be a Queen (of Hearts I’d guess)?

  6. Yeah, this one is pretty brilliant. They’re all card-head people, so you’ve got the three kings bringing gifts to the newly born savior. And which card would said savior be? Another king? An ace? Nope, the rules for draw and stud poker, of course. He was born to tell the other cards how to live their card-lives.

Before this, they probably played rummy or solitaire or something. And some cards still do, because they don’t believe little Rules for Draw and Stud Poker was the card-messiah.

  7. Having read the comments, I realize I’m definitely not Christian. 🙂 All I got out of this was “Oh. Christmas cards.”

  8. I definitely didn’t get “Christmas Cards” but I did assume like arik & co. that Jesus (pbuh) is the Logos (Word of God) so as the Living Word himself, he brings the rules to the people but doesn’t participate in the Game himself.

  9. BTW, I gave this book to my brother (through Bill’s Amazon banner, of course). I told him to flip to any random page, and he bust a gut in under two seconds (I believe it was the one where a dad is mad the family cat messed the rug…)

  11. Hey Theresa, if you don’t like people explaining the meanings of comics, I think you’re at the wrong site.
