  1. I think this just falls into the “funny because it’s weird” category, like so many Far Side cartoons. (Actually, I don’t find this one funny, but I sort of see how one might find this sort of weird situation funny.)

  2. The only way this is funny for me is thinking that the man does not want to receive a ticket and switched places with the only thing around that could possibly pass as the driver. The policeman believing it adds to the funnyness. At least the man is wearing his seatbelt. Too bad none of the potato’s eyes can see the road, though.

  3. I’ll speculate that the reason the potato was pulled over in the first place is because he was stopped at a red light, then peeled out.

But it bAT L’s switching theory is correct, maybe the boy just figures the potato is less likely to get a ticket, because he has appeal.

  4. Traffic laws governing tubers are far stricter. If he’s convicted of speeding he’s going to fry.

  7. Potato babies! Remember the home economics students with their potato or egg “children” that they had to take care of for a week?

“Excuse me sir, but does your son have a license?”

  8. I’d try to wedge one more joke in here, but I’d be scalloped alive!

  9. Notice how the cop is sticking his nose into the car? He’s checking for the smell of burnt cannabis as he suspects the driver might be, uh, like totaly baked.

  10. Cop should go after the big fish instead of going after the small fry

  12. This may have nothing to do with the comic, but it reminded me of an inside joke at my school. In spanish, “papa” can mean “potato”, “father”, or “Pope” depending on where the accent is. this leads to jokes such as “Every time I eat too many fathers my potato yells at me”. This comic may be playing off the same idea
