Comics That Made Rasheed Khaleel Laugh at the End of December and the Beginning of January

  1. Dennis the Menace: Traditionally the Star of Bethlehem is depicted with five points. The six-pointed star is the Star of David. I guess the cartoonist couldn’t think of a winter spectator sport in which five points can be scored. (Not being a sports type, I can’t either.)

  2. The “Ziggy” cartoon is making me laugh for other reasons: He’s talking to a “pschiatrist” [sic] who loathes him so much, he’s turned his chair away from the couch.

  3. Santa on a break made me LOL!

  4. Psychiatrists are often depicted turning their chairs away, so they can focus on the patient’s words and/or so the patient doesn’t feel like he/she is being watched.

  5. That’s also so the shrink can sneak out of a session without the patient knowing (remember There’s Something About Mary?)

  6. My (admittedly limited) experience with that level of analysis had me on the couch, oriented so that I couldn’t see the therapist. However they are depicted, I wonder how many actually do turn away.

Alternate reaction: Psychiatrists are also often depicted solving crossword puzzles while pretending to be listening to their patients….

  7. My major is psychology and we hear this a lot. The psychologist or psychiatrist sits that way (depending on their preference, they might not) so that they are removed from the client’s point of view. This dissociates them from the client so they get a more direct conversation. This makes it more like hearing a person talking to himself or herself than hearing what they want you to hear.

  8. What does Santa have on his lap?

  9. Andrea – it’s a bed of nails…. so no kid will sit there while Santa is on his (union mandated?) break.
